"一枚二枚転載されるぐらいなら別にいいかな~なんて思っていたけれど
背景透過加工+加工とか、大量に絵を転載しまくられているのを見て、少し色々考えました
ゲームの顔グラ全部載せとかヤメテ・・・大量転載系はヤメテ・・・全部海外サイトだけども・・・"
"I guess if it’s just one or two, I can ignore it~" Or so I thought, but I’ve been seeing a lot of mass reprints, such as for transparent backgrounds and edited images.
Stop uploading hordes of game sprites… Stop mass reprinting… It only happens on foreign websites, but…

More notes on what to do and what not to do with Mogeko’s artwork below the cut. (中文版)

WHAT TO DO IF YOU SEE PEOPLE DOING THINGS THAT GENERALLY GO AGAINST THESE POINTS:

Don’t Like nor Reblog it (Tumblr)
Send in an Ask (Or Note on DA) to request the pictures be taken down
Redirect them to this post / Mogeko’s About This Site section if they want evidence
If they refuse then wow I don’t know what to say

SOMEWHAT IN-DEPTH LIST OF WHAT’S OKAY AND WHAT’S NOT

To make things easier, I’ve compiled everything Mogeko has ever mentioned on their blog and clarification emails regarding their preferences when it comes to reprinting their artwork, which includes translated versions and stuff.

These aren’t listed on their site because they don’t really like being long-winded, especially since the site is run with the intent of being a “hobby”. (Will probably be updated as time goes by)

1. Do not reprint nor translate their works without written permission.

2. Do not provide direct links to pictures.

For example, if I want to see the artwork of Killisaki, providing a link to /character/0002.html is okay. However, /character/0002.png is not okay. (The reason is that this will steal bandwidth, and if fc2.com notices unusually high bandwidth for Mogeko’s site, they will shut it down.)

3. Using their art for things like headers, profile pictures, sidebars, backgrounds, et. cetera is fine by them, no problem at all.

4. Screenshots of games are alright.

Of course, that’s within the range of common sense at your own discretion: if the screenshots contain possible spoilers, for example, then that’s kind of… (Basically, tag your spoilers or put it under a Read More, I guess.)

5. Don’t make transparent background images of their art and upload it.

Apparently, one or two is okay, but literally doing the whole cast of the Gray Garden or that sort of thing kind of doesn’t really go well.

6. They’d prefer if you didn’t screenshot and post their emails because it makes them embarrassed.

7. For translated versions, while they prefer it to be on one platform only, as long as it’s posted by the translator themselves, they’re quite alright.

8. For translated versions of spoiler-y or rated artworks, they’d like for it to be under a Read More or something similar, with ample warnings.

9. If you have any special reason to want to reprint their works, ask them directly via email, okegom@yahoo.co.jp.

They can answer in basic English if you keep it simple. (Or if you want, you can ask me to translate. Just send in the message you want translated and I’ll throw it into simple Japanese for you. @ seichiinaratranslates.tumblr.c…)

10. If you want to translate for them, you have to ask them directly.

Do not, I repeat, do not ask me. I don’t mind if you use my translations as a reference to translate into another language, but I cannot give you permission.

11. At the very, very, veeeeery worst, providing a link to the original when reprinting is acceptable, but they really, really don’t want that.

Their reason is that if you want to see their art, you can just access their site to begin with.

12. For merchandise, as long as you’re not doing it for profit or commercially, and doing it as a fan, they don’t have many issues whatsoever.

But contact them just in case anyway.

AND LASTLY,

If you claim their art as yours they will punch you.

Things I’m still trying to clarify is to what extent editing a picture is then uploading it is fine, as well as screenshots of the website. Really, though, the underlying point is, USE YOUR COMMON SENSEEEEE.

Can you play the game and record parts of it, then post the videos on youtube?
